Cemetery & Parks Meeting
May 12, 2014
Kimball House

The meeting was opened at 7:08PM present were John Barrett, Tubby Boucher, Ray Boyes, Roger Ropoza and Pam Haman.

Appointments: Members from Townsend Board of Health, attending to the meeting to review the smoking regulations for municipal parks as well as Kids Kountry Playground.  The BOH would like signs placed in both locations.  Signs are generally 12x18.  The department did have questions/concerns as to who would be responsible for policing this matter.  There was also a discussion that signs would need to be approved by the Historic District Commission.  BOH members understand the need to harmonize the signs with the common atmosphere.  The Commissioners asked that the BOH meet with the Historic District Commission then come back to the department with type of sign need for the common/parks.  The BOH was concerned about the start of the Band Concert season and the need to have the signs in place by then.

Bills and deeds were reviewed, approved and signed.

Department is in the process of getting ready for Memorial Day.  Roger and crew are looming and seeding taking care of the winter kill.

Several families requested different lots.  These burials were done in the winter however the families were unhappy with the locations once spring came.  The families will be charged additional disinterment and interment fees for the switching of lots.

Soldiers Memorial.  Cheryl Ritter reported to Roger that families and soldiers agreed that the memorial should be for all war veterans.  She hopes to meet with the department in June with additional information.

A request for tree by the Hamilton lot was received, possible a red maple.  Commissioners will review this at a later date.

The next meeting is scheduled for June 9, at 7PM on the upper common.

The meeting adjourned at 8:10PM.
